About

Bridgett Cains

Dip. Choreography, Cert. Theatre Arts

Onstage, Bridgett is an elegantly unsettling dancer and sideshow contortionist who loves making audiences squirm.Β Offstage, she's a clumsy dork obsessed with learning about creative processes and encouraging other performers to be their own unique and gloriously weird selves.

With more than two decades of experience teaching and choreographing everything from musical theatre to tightwire, sideshow to baby ballet, her most constant obsession is in helping others to move in their own authentic way.

Through Peculiar Stage, she aims to focus on three areas:

  • Choreography

Creating work that is interesting and engaging to the audience, while being fulfilling and enjoyable to perform is of great importance. Being challenged, inviting feedback, and striving for improvement on your own terms are essential.

  • Creative Process

Experimenting, playing, collecting tools that work for you, journalling, sharing your experiences, body doubling, planning, and much more will help you approach a huge part of your work without a sense of panic or dread.

  • Community

Valuing openness, honesty, sharing, and accessibility, Bridgett insists on the spaces she works in being safe for the people she loves.
